Momz Mention – Bonnie Franklin

March 5th, 2013 by Mari Deno | Daily Momz,Momz Daily | No Comments »

Last Friday actress Bonnie Franklin passed away at the age of 69 from pancreatic cancer.

Bonnie is most remembered for her role in the ’70s and ’80s sitcom One Day at a Time.
Her character Ann Romano, was a new type of TV mom – divorced and raising two daughters on her own as she re-builds her personal and professional life. For the time it was incredibly revolutionary and also incredibly real for legions of the show’s fans.

Bonnie fought for the show to use humor in dealing with real life situations that other shows were afraid to tackle like teen pregnancy and dealing with an absentee father. She also made sure that problems weren’t solved by relying on the nearest man, but rather making sure that her character maintained her strength, independence and integrity. For the nine years of the shows run she portrayed a character that allowed hard-working, single moms to see themselves on TV and find humor in a hard situation. Bonnie carried that ideal into her real life, spending time advocating for women’s rights, speaking to large crowds at marches in Washington.

Her TV daughter Valerie Bertinelli had this to say “My heart is breaking. Bonnie has always been one of the most important women in my life and was a second mother to me. The years on One Day At A Time were some of the happiest of my life, and along with Pat and Mackenzie we were a family in every way. She taught me how to navigate this business and life itself with grace and humor, and to always be true to yourself. I will miss her terribly.”

In real life Bonnie was a devoted step-mother to Jed and Julie Minoff. She will be greatly missed, though her TV legacy will certainly live on.

Momz Mention – Heidi Klum

March 5th, 2013 by Mari Deno | Daily Momz,Momz Daily | No Comments »

Apparently model mom Heidi Klum doesn’t have enough job titles – so she’ll be joining the judging panel of ABC’s America’s Got Talent.
She’ll be the fourth judge along with returning judges Howard Stern and Howie Mandel, and fellow new judge, Spice Girl Mel B. The show starts filming today, so this was a surprise last minute decision on the part of the producers. It will also be the first time the show has had a four-person judging panel. It seems like a smart decision on the producer’s part since Heidi received an Emmy nomination for her hosting skills on Project Runway.
So that will mean that this year Heidi will host/judge Lifetime’s Project Runway (US), Project Runway (Germany), Germany’s Next Top Model and now America’s Got Talent. All this and launching Surprise! (her new perfume), designing Truly Scrumptious, (her line of children’s clothing line), and raising four children. When does she possibly find time to sleep?!
Though we’re sure all that running around after the kids and rushing from set to set helps her stay in trim supermodel shape!

Momz Mention – Tori Spelling

March 5th, 2013 by Mari Deno | Celebrity Daily,Momz Daily | No Comments »

This week Star magazine learned that you shouldn’t mess with Momz!

The March 11th issue of the tabloid claimed that actress Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott were getting a divorce, citing rumors of his cheating as the reason. Unfortunately two of Tori and Dean’s children saw the magazine at the grocery store and were incredibly upset by it, and Tori reacted like any mother would and wrote an angry open letter to the magazine on her blog.

In her letter, she acknowledges part of being a public figure is seeing magazine speculate about your private life and she wrote “I’ve built up a pretty thick skin to the lies and trash talking at this point, but my children are another story. Keep them out of it!”
That’s certainly a sentiment that any parent can relate to – the overwhelming urge to protect your children from any type of pain, any way you can. And when your children are in tears wondering why a magazine is printing that their parents are splitting up and they may not get to live with their father anymore, it’s hard to imagine
how to cope with the situation. Tori attempted to explain the situation to them this way “Driving home I repeatedly told my children, ‘That magazine doesn’t know us. Daddy and I are very happy and in love. There will be no divorce and all of us will remain together as a family.’” In her blog she repeatedly implored the tabloid to focus on her if they needed material for their covers, but to leave her husband and children out of the story.

Dadz in the Mix – Nick Lachey

February 28th, 2013 by Mari Deno | Daily Momz,Momz Daily | No Comments »

Tuesday morning singer Nick Lachey released the cover art for his new album, A Father’s Lullaby, featuring his adorable son Camden. Both Nick and Camden looked happy and handsome on the cover, with their matching t-shirts, brown hair, and deep blue eyes. Five-month-old Camden steals the focus though, with his gorgeous baby smile and kissable cheeks.
The album, released in a partnership with Fisher-Price, will be available to purchase on March 13th, and it’s being described as a gentler, more sentimental album than Nick’s former boy-band albums. There are four original songs, as well as covers of classic, kid- friendly music.

He certainly credits fatherhood with this new side to his music saying, “Camden is the best muse a father could ask for!”

The boy band part of his life is far from over though! In May of this year Nick’s band 98 Degrees will release a new album, 2.0, and then they head out on a summer tour with New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men. It will be a very different vibe on the tour bus this time around as Camden and wife Vanessa will be joining Nick on tour.

We’re sure all the Momz in the audience who grew up with these bands will be excited to see a new side to their teenage crushes (as well as dancing to the songs that they loved back then.)

Momz Mention – Charlize Theron

February 28th, 2013 by Mari Deno | Daily Momz,Momz Daily | No Comments »

Post-Oscar week is apparently becoming “Do Good Deeds” week in Hollywood! After her weekend being a red-carpet hero and dancing at the Oscars mom Charlize Theron has decided to give back.

Charlize announced that she’ll be teaming with TOMS shoes for the third time, to sell a new original design to benefit her charity the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program (CTAOP). The charity works with community programs in Africa to reduce the occorances of HIV/ AIDS in African youth. The bright and colorful shoes feature the CTAOP logo and their motto “Reach Out, Think Beyond, and Look Within” on the inside.
Charlize clearly enjoys the opportunity to work with TOMS and further both of their charities saying – “We have very similar philosophies and I think, you know, I think our passion lies with youth and I think when we got together that we saw great opportunity to enhance each other’s dreams of change in a way that might not have been able to happen if we didn’t partner.”

The shoes will be available for purchase starting this weekend. Buying a pair allows you to do two good deeds since the proceeds will be going to CTAOP and TOMS will do their “buy a pair, give a pair” donation program. Be sure to check out: http://www.toms.com/charlize-theron- confirmation to buy your pair and give back to children all over the world!

Oscar Profile – Sally Field

February 23rd, 2013 by Mari Deno | Celebrity Daily,Momz Daily | No Comments »

Leading up to this Sunday’s 85th Annual Academy Awards show we’ll be taking a look at some of the Momz hoping to pick up a statuette.
Nominated for her amazing portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln in DreamWorks’ Lincoln, she’s up against some heavy competition in the Best Supporting Actress Category. Sally already has two Oscars for her roles in Norma Rae and Places in the Heart, but hasn’t been nominated in the 28 years since. This year may break her 2-0 winning record as she’s up against front-runner Anne Hathaway’s turn as Fantine in Universal’s Les Miserables. If Sally does win, though, I doubt she’ll ever top her now famous and often quoted acceptance speech from Place in the Heart in which she declared “You like me…right now…you like me.” And judging from the long list of accolades in her acting career it’s clear that we do still like her a great deal.
In addition to her excellent acting talent, Sally is also a mother to three sons, two of whom have followed their mom into the movie business. In fact, her son Peter Craig worked with another of this year’s news-making nominees, Ben Affleck, when they co-wrote the 2010 movie The Town together. Her love and devotion for her children won her a completely different type of honor last year, when she was awarded the Human Rights Campaign Ally for Equality award for her advocacy for gay rights issues. The award was presented by her youngest son, Sam Greisman, who is openly gay.
Whatever the outcome of Sunday’s show Sally will always be one of our favorite actresses and a clearly wonderful and loving mother.

Moda Mom – Victoria Beckham

Victoria's AW13 Collection

Victoria's AW13 Collection

Mom/pop star/ fashion designer Victoria Beckham presented her new fashion line; AW13, at the Mercedes Benz Fashion week in New York in the public library.

Her line was full of minimalist, modern, sexy looks with pops of jewel tones mixed in with the mostly black pieces. The perfect balance of masculine/feminine.

However, the best looking ensemble to walk down the runway was Victoria’s 18 month old daughter – Harper. In fact, after the applause died down, the adorable toddler took to the catwalk, with her mom acting as paparazzi and posting pictures of the future supermodel on Instagram. Modeling seems to be the family business for the Beckham clan, as young Romeo’s ad campaign for Burberry premiered last month and of course, dad’s underwear billboards have stopped traffic all over the country! (photoshopped right?)

After the show, the fashionable family headed to lunch at Balthazar where tiny Harper carried a rose and wore a a pea coat that frankly we’re a little jealous of! We can’t wait to see more of Victoria’s fashion creations, as well as pictures of the whole beautiful family!

Jada & Willow hit NY Fashion Week

Jada & Willow hit NY Fashion Week

Its always a challenge for MOMZ to be creative when spending quality time with their daughters however, New York Fashion Week seems to the trending place for famous moms and daughters to do their girly bonding.
Jada Pinkett and Willow Smith started their fashion week fun at the Narcisco Rodriguez show. It’s no surprise this Mother/Daughter Duo is hitting a lot of shows this week since both are known for their risk taking, fashion forward style.
Willow was in the entertainment news recently for backing out of her dad Will Smith and Jay-Z’s hip-hop remake of the musical Annie. However, since the reason she backed out was because she wanted to focus on being a twelve-year-old, it’s hard for anyone to argue with her choice. We hope she and her mom enjoy their week in New York together, having fun and being fierce!

Amy can now add author to her resume!

Amy can now add author to her resume!

So I added my first book to my 2014 “To Read” List when Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler announced this week that she was writing her memoir.
The book is being described as
“An illustrated, non-linear diary full of humor and honesty and brimming with true stories, fictional anecdotes and life lessons, the book will be a unique and engaging experience from one of today’s most talented and beloved stars.”
After watching her YouTube show Ask Amy on the SmartGirls Channel, we can’t wait to see what other life lessons she has to share with women of all ages.
We’re also very impressed that she’s managing to write a book while chasing after her two sons, Archie and Abel, and producing and starring in her TV show.

Her down to earth, humorous and honest take on life will be a welcome addition to the celebrity memoir genre. We somehow want her to adopt us, and make us her and Tina Fey’s new BFFs!
