Music Momz – Adele

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

The James Bond producers are hoping for a repeat award-winning performance with singer Adele.

Just a week after winning the Oscar for her song; Skyfall, Adele was approached by the Bond team to write and perform the theme for the next, as yet untitled, James Bond film, the twenty-fourth in the series.

So far only Shirley Bassey has performed more than one of the iconic theme songs, who performed three.
Adele returned to England yesterday after her two-month-long stay in Los Angeles, during which she won a Golden Globe, Grammy and Oscar award.
In the airport this weekend the singer was seen carrying and protecting her greatest accomplishment of the last her, her infant son, who was hidden from the paparazzi under a thick blanket. Once home she tweeted a picture of her Oscar and a tiny statue for Best Son, with the message “…and we’re home! What an epic trip. Thanks for having us Hollywood!”
We’re sure we’ll see her in Hollywood again soon, perhaps picking up another golden statue for a second successful partnership with 007.

Momz Mention – Bonnie Franklin

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Last Friday actress Bonnie Franklin passed away at the age of 69 from pancreatic cancer.

Bonnie is most remembered for her role in the ’70s and ’80s sitcom One Day at a Time.
Her character Ann Romano, was a new type of TV mom – divorced and raising two daughters on her own as she re-builds her personal and professional life. For the time it was incredibly revolutionary and also incredibly real for legions of the show’s fans.

Bonnie fought for the show to use humor in dealing with real life situations that other shows were afraid to tackle like teen pregnancy and dealing with an absentee father. She also made sure that problems weren’t solved by relying on the nearest man, but rather making sure that her character maintained her strength, independence and integrity. For the nine years of the shows run she portrayed a character that allowed hard-working, single moms to see themselves on TV and find humor in a hard situation. Bonnie carried that ideal into her real life, spending time advocating for women’s rights, speaking to large crowds at marches in Washington.

Her TV daughter Valerie Bertinelli had this to say “My heart is breaking. Bonnie has always been one of the most important women in my life and was a second mother to me. The years on One Day At A Time were some of the happiest of my life, and along with Pat and Mackenzie we were a family in every way. She taught me how to navigate this business and life itself with grace and humor, and to always be true to yourself. I will miss her terribly.”

In real life Bonnie was a devoted step-mother to Jed and Julie Minoff. She will be greatly missed, though her TV legacy will certainly live on.

Momz Mention – Heidi Klum

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Apparently model mom Heidi Klum doesn’t have enough job titles – so she’ll be joining the judging panel of ABC’s America’s Got Talent.
She’ll be the fourth judge along with returning judges Howard Stern and Howie Mandel, and fellow new judge, Spice Girl Mel B. The show starts filming today, so this was a surprise last minute decision on the part of the producers. It will also be the first time the show has had a four-person judging panel. It seems like a smart decision on the producer’s part since Heidi received an Emmy nomination for her hosting skills on Project Runway.
So that will mean that this year Heidi will host/judge Lifetime’s Project Runway (US), Project Runway (Germany), Germany’s Next Top Model and now America’s Got Talent. All this and launching Surprise! (her new perfume), designing Truly Scrumptious, (her line of children’s clothing line), and raising four children. When does she possibly find time to sleep?!
Though we’re sure all that running around after the kids and rushing from set to set helps her stay in trim supermodel shape!

Moda Mom – Jessica Alba

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Paris is always a good idea!

Actress and mom Jessica Alba took off for a girls trip to Paris this week with her four-year-old daughter Honor. The mother-daughter duo are traveling with Jessica’s friend and makeup artist Lauren Anderson for Paris Fashion week.
The duo certainly did look stylish as they flew out of LAX in coordinating outfits on Friday. Since arriving in Paris they’ve been seen bundled up against the cold and rainy weather as they’ve grabbed coffee and gone sightseeing. The two looked incredibly happy and tourist-y in front of the Eiffel Tower, and then stopped for crepes on Saturday. Jessica is also having a great weekend professionally, with her newest movie Escape From Planet Earth at number three at the box office!

It’s nice that Jessica and Honor can have a special one-on-one bonding time while younger daughter Haven gets some time home alone with dad Cash Warren. We’ll probably see more of the pair as they check out the latest Parisian fashions at the many shows this week.

After this we’re sure Honor will be well on her way to being as stylish as her beautiful mother!

Momz Mention – Rachel Wiesz

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Two lovely Momz made their mark in London Thursday night as Rachel Wiesz and Michelle Williams
hit the yellow brick carpet for the premiere of Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful.

Michelle looked lovely and colorful in a blue feathered dress designed by Burberry Prorsum and Rachel looked regal in her gold Micheal Kors dress. The two play witches Glenda and Evanora in the film, which opens next Friday here in America.

Michelle also rocked a black and gold Jason Wu dress at the Moscow premiere earlier this week, which unfortunately Rachel wasn’t able to make. We also love the spirit of female camaraderie and closeness Rachel and Michelle, and the third witch in the trio Mila Kunis, exhibited at the premiere.

The three beautiful women looked happy as they held hands and hugged for the cameras. It’s especially nice to see since the news earlier this week was all about Michelle and her recent breakup, and we all know a good girlfriend and an excuse to dress up can help get you through tough time.

We’re sure Michelle’s daughter Matilda and Rachel’s son Henry are excited to see their moms on the big screen, since they both tend to gravitate towards more adult, dramatic roles. We’re excited to journey back to the land of Oz with our families as well!

Momz Mention – Christina Applegate

Friday, March 1st, 2013

Amidst the insanity of Oscar weekend actress Christina Applegate managed to pull off a ceremony all her own – her wedding!
The star of NBC’s Up All Night married long-time boyfriend, Porno for Pyros musician; Martyn LeNoble, in a private Los Angeles ceremony this past Saturday. The private ceremony was attended mainly by family- most importantly the couple’s two-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace.

Christina has openly stated that Martyn served as her major support during her battle with breast cancer and double mastectomy, further saying “Without him, I don’t know if I could’ve gone through any of it. He came around at a time when there was a lot of loss in my life on many levels, so he’s been a really incredible help.”

Hopefully, after making it through that, the rest of their marriage will be mostly smooth sailing.

Christina recently made the decision to leave Up All Night due to creative differences, but we will get to see her back on the big screen reprising her role as Veronica Corningstone in Apatow Productions’ Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
Until then we hope she has plenty of time to enjoy life as a newlywed and a mom!

Moda Mom – Reese Witherspoon

Friday, March 1st, 2013

For the Oscars this year Reese Witherspoon consulted the most important style expert in her life – thirteen-year-old daughter, Ava.

Seeing she just recently gave birth to baby Tennessee James, this mother of three looked S T U N N I N G in her royal blue and black Louis Vuitton gown. When asked about her look on the red carpet, Reese explained the look was a mother-daughter collaboration –
“My daughter and I picked it out. She said, ‘This is a winner.’ She’s 13, so she definitely weighs in. She helps me pick the jewelry, makeup and everything.”

Ava clearly has an excellent eye for designer clothing and how to pull a look together, as Reese looked incredible and is well known for her classic elegance. In fact, this Oscar walk landed her on several Best Dressed looks.
The Oscar-winning actress was there on Sunday to present, but we’ll be seeing her in several projects in the near future, including Summit Entertainment’s Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus.

And we’re sure Ava will be there styling her beautiful mom for many more red carpet walks.

Dadz in the Mix – Nick Lachey

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Tuesday morning singer Nick Lachey released the cover art for his new album, A Father’s Lullaby, featuring his adorable son Camden. Both Nick and Camden looked happy and handsome on the cover, with their matching t-shirts, brown hair, and deep blue eyes. Five-month-old Camden steals the focus though, with his gorgeous baby smile and kissable cheeks.
The album, released in a partnership with Fisher-Price, will be available to purchase on March 13th, and it’s being described as a gentler, more sentimental album than Nick’s former boy-band albums. There are four original songs, as well as covers of classic, kid- friendly music.

He certainly credits fatherhood with this new side to his music saying, “Camden is the best muse a father could ask for!”

The boy band part of his life is far from over though! In May of this year Nick’s band 98 Degrees will release a new album, 2.0, and then they head out on a summer tour with New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men. It will be a very different vibe on the tour bus this time around as Camden and wife Vanessa will be joining Nick on tour.

We’re sure all the Momz in the audience who grew up with these bands will be excited to see a new side to their teenage crushes (as well as dancing to the songs that they loved back then.)

Momz 2 B – Kim Kardashian

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Early Tuesday morning Kim Kardashian joined the world of mom blogs by posting an article entitled “Mommy Blog: Perfect Maternity Jeans” to her personal website.

Apparently after a weekend of dressing up in gowns for Elton John’s post-Oscar party the mom-to-be decided to focus on casual maternity clothing, with a special focus on J Brand Jeans.

It sounds as if this may become a regular feature on Kim’s site since she refers to it as her “first mommy blog.” In it she describes the jeans and also says “I feel like I’m back to my old self and I’m so happy!” She also asks her readers to share their advice on maternity clothing and any other pregnancy tips. It will be interesting to see how the blog progresses through Kim’s pregnancy, and whether it becomes more of a personal journal or stays focused on product reviews. Either way between the blog, three magazine covers this week alone, and all the Kardashian reality shows there will be very little of this pregnancy that the public won’t get to see.
And, as we saw yesterday, what the Kardashian family doesn’t reveal, close family friend Kathie Lee Gifford might just let slip on Today, as she confirmed the reports that Kim and Kanye are expecting a little girl.
What do you Momz think- will you be checking out Kim’s blog and offering advice? We always welcome your thoughts in the comments section!!

Momz Mention – Charlize Theron

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Post-Oscar week is apparently becoming “Do Good Deeds” week in Hollywood! After her weekend being a red-carpet hero and dancing at the Oscars mom Charlize Theron has decided to give back.

Charlize announced that she’ll be teaming with TOMS shoes for the third time, to sell a new original design to benefit her charity the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program (CTAOP). The charity works with community programs in Africa to reduce the occorances of HIV/ AIDS in African youth. The bright and colorful shoes feature the CTAOP logo and their motto “Reach Out, Think Beyond, and Look Within” on the inside.
Charlize clearly enjoys the opportunity to work with TOMS and further both of their charities saying – “We have very similar philosophies and I think, you know, I think our passion lies with youth and I think when we got together that we saw great opportunity to enhance each other’s dreams of change in a way that might not have been able to happen if we didn’t partner.”

The shoes will be available for purchase starting this weekend. Buying a pair allows you to do two good deeds since the proceeds will be going to CTAOP and TOMS will do their “buy a pair, give a pair” donation program. Be sure to check out: http://www.toms.com/charlize-theron- confirmation to buy your pair and give back to children all over the world!
